The Friends of the Waban Hill Reservoir is a 501c3 non-profit organization. We are dedicated to working with the City of Newton to preserve, improve and maintain this unique site for all to enjoy.
The Waban Hill Reservoir is like no other site in our city. Perched near the peak of the highest hill in Newton and at the top of Heartbreak Hill, visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramic views including spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
The 5-acre Reservoir site provides a unique opportunity for enjoyment for people of all ages and from all neighborhoods, away from the bustle of the streets below.
Since the City of Newton opened it to the public in October, 2015, it has become a magnet for walkers, runners, dog-owners as well as bikers stopping for a rest. It's also become a popular place for sledding, ball playing, quiet contemplation and running into friends old and new.
The Friends of the Waban Hill Reservoir organization emerged out of the original Waban Hill Reservoir Advisory Group (WHRAG) that was appointed by the City of Newton to provide community advice to the Board of Aldermen concerning the acquisition and use of the Waban Hill Reservoir. The WHRAG strongly supported the acquisition by the City of Newton of the Waban Hill Reservoir site, a site of unique topographic and historical significance, to expand and enhance the public open space resources for the citizens of Newton. Click here to read the final report that was issued by the WHRAG as a result of it's four-month process.
As the City of Newton works to upgrade and improve this unique site, The Friends of the Waban Hill Reservoir are committed to supporting the City in that process. Our efforts include private fundraising to support and compliment the City's efforts.
